The World Health Organization (“WHO”) officially recommended on December 14, 2017, that the chemical compound cannabidiol (CBD) no longer be internationally scheduled as a controlled substance. WHO has issued a preliminary report that found CBD to be non-addictive and generally safe. The CBD pre-review report (, as issued by the agency, states, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential.” The report further indicates that, “CBD is generally well tolerated and with a good safety profile. Reported adverse effects may be as a result of drug-drug interactions between CBD and patients’ existing medications.”
